An Assessment of Strength

Written by: Micaleb Lawrence

We all feel strong at times. We are at the top of the world and we are ready to take off. However, often times we barely even know where we are heading. As human beings we have become so accustomed to the opinions of other individuals, so we end up waiting for their approval before we really – take off.

Can you imagine what your world would be like if you did what you wanted to do without waiting? Me neither, I am always waiting. Not for anything specific, I just wait and that waiting turns into a wait for approval. The approval of complete strangers often determines my worth, that got me thinking: “Why am I waiting? Am I really that weak? Do I really need the approval of my followers, my friends and family in order for me to succeed”? I even ended up answering myself. “No, I do not need to wait” I choose to. I choose to do everything society expects of me, so society can accept me. The same society that would reject me for not waiting. So, I chose to go ahead and reach for my dreams.

There is often this stigma against people who actually prefer to be alone. However, if your solitude brings you your peace. Go ahead, do it. Find your peace. Do not wait for society. Your strength and the amount of people you surround yourself with should not determine your worth. The risks you take certainly won’t make you less of a person, it makes you more of a person. If there’s one thing you could do, anything, do it. Perhaps you’ve been wanting to do it for years, but you’ve been waiting. You’ve been waiting for society to approve it. If the rest of the world refuses to follow your lead then you follow yourself to that place that makes you stronger, bolder, and much more free. So, don’t wait, in the words of Chloe and Halle, “Do It”.
