I listen to the voices of people surrounding me.
The ones making all the noise.
The ones subtly saying something…
I fear that the volume may take over my own thoughts
Yet I know how to tone it down.
Soft enough to listen to myself.
I hear things.
I say nothing.
I listen to the sound of the wind hoping it blows me somewhere.
In a destination too far for me to reach there’s a bird chirping.
A car starting and a baby crying.
I silently listen to these sounds to acknowledge the others.
To not other the minority, I sit and listen.
To appreciate the sounds of emotion and intention,
of broken and fixed,
of nature and man.
I silently listen, loud enough to be heard.
