A sonnet is a simple kind of song
The lyrics flow in five iambic feet
Each up and down in rhythmic form belong
And simple in its calm and subtle beat
A sonnet's song is made by grouping fours,
Concluding with a simple pair of two
The fourteen lines a sonnet's very core
To do with less will surely you undo
A sonnet may a simple poem be
But simple not to try your hand at one
Though, if these words encouraged you to see
That poetry can be a lot of fun
Then grab a pen and make a cheerful start
And put on paper what is in your heart
