Your Story

By Cleo Carelse

Do you ever envision yourself as the main character?

highlighting the parts that are exciting and fun, at times tragic.

It focuses on you, more than any other person.

Imagine through a lens you are cozied up in the corner on a rocking chair, reading a book,

romanticizing your life,

while the fireplace warms the cockles of your heart.

Your eyes; ambitious, curious and at times naïve with the world around you.

Naturally struck with life’s dilemmas, reacting impulsively or just being indecisive.

But you’re on a journey.

You reach a crossroad,

something as simple as, “tea or coffee?”

What happens after you choose one?

Now this inconsequential decision goes on to have important consequences in your life,

majority of the time played by the antagonist of your inner thoughts.

In the next chapter,

Your thoughts are running in a field of wild lilies,

to the sound of birds chirping,

but you’re suddenly faced with challenges,

that requires you to overcome, while dark academia music plays in the background.

Time is running out, you’re seeking the last piece of the puzzle of growth, change, love, risk, and adventure.

But instead of looking for it out in a world filled with supporting roles,

all of these exists simultaneously within you,

and the decisions you make are guided by the type of character you spend the most playing.

Playing moment-to-moment.

The story centers around your placement.

One thing you have is unique and rewarding,

is yourself.

A beautiful commodity.

But I’m afraid…

What if they don’t like me?” Then love yourself harder.

It’s not about pretending, it’s about being.

That basic need is what drives you.

So just like deciding between tea or coffee,

you made a choice.

And without even noticing,

You became the main character of your story.
