‘(Your) Love’s Been Good to Me’ was/is inspired by my other poem, ‘Te amo’, published under the same company on the 24th of December 2020.
After all these years I thought there would be a punchline to the way you love me
I thought maybe it’s too good to be true;
Maybe there’s a motive to your love
I thought maybe in the long run there would be a plot-twist and you would spite me
Until this very day I wait…
Though not with bated breath like before.
It’s not easy,
But I try to be Present in what we have;
And I’ve noticed that the more Present I am in it it becomes alive in the most unimaginable way
I notice it’s essence, the core of it, the purity and it’s innocence
Free from the shackles of ego
In these fleeting moments it becomes easy and untainted, celestial even, to love.
I love like a child,
I love unalloyedly; you do too, substantially yet immeasurably
Never had I thought before that it was possible for one to love someone holistically
A love that touches and caresses, ever so delicately and remarkably, every part of their being
I am convinced that love like this is rare, thus fulfilling for both lover and beloved.
I guess what I’m trying to say is: your love has been good to me, and thank you!
Though I don’t know what may come –
I don’t bide in the thought, too –
But good and bad
I want you to hold my hand tight (don’t make any promises)
And figure it out with me.
